A great dog would be, well – she is house trained, knows basic obedience commands and is completely vetted. She is a dominant female and, due to a very bad experience in her past with a large dog, she is fearful aggressive of other dogs and strangers. Despite this, the Smooth Fox Terrier is very loyal and intelligent, and it can even be trained for tricks and other useful commands. These highly intelligent breeds pick up a command after only about five or six exposures, they more often respond on the first time you give the command, and they remember commands even if they aren’t practiced often. They also learn commands even when the trainer is inexperienced and makes mistakes. These breeds aren’t the smallest, but they also aren’t very big. For many dog owners, dogs between 20 and 40 pounds make the perfect pet because they are easy to manage when walking, yet strong and active enough to play frisbee in the back yard. So you aren’t limited to just the short-haired breeds if you don’t have time for regular brushing. You still can choose a longhaired breed; you just have to clip his coat short to make it easy to maintain.
