American Bulldog Traits

The American Bulldog is a stocky and well built, strong-looking dog with powerful jaws. Its coat is short and generally smooth. Weighing between 75 to 125 lb, or 27 to 60 kg, and measuring 20 to 28 inches, or 50 to 71 cm in height, the American Bulldog is taller, swifter, and more athletic compared to the English Bulldog. In fact, some of them have been known to leap up 6 feet high in the air. The American Bulldog is a great family dog, when you allow them to be.

An American Bulldog is typically a happy, friendly, and assertive dog that is at ease with its family and fine with strangers as they get to know the stranger in question. They are quite fond of children but sometimes do not know their own strength. The American Bulldog is a gentle, loving family companion who is fearless enough to face an angry bull or a human intruder. They are known for being great with children and other pets. There is a wide size and weight latitude in the breed, which vary according to the type (Johnson, Scott, Painter/margentina, Old Southern Whites type or hybrid) but overall the american bulldog is always “well balanced”. Exaggeration of any part of the dog would reduce his effectiveness at work.

They have a wide chest and a tapered, muscular neck that may or may not have a slight dewlap. The breed features a strong-boned, compact body with straight limbs and burly hindquarters. The chest is wide and the muscular neck tapers from shoulders to head. The neck may have a slight dewlap.

Because they were originally bred to bring down bulls and other livestock, American Bulldogs have a strong aggressive instinct with other animals. They should be properly socialized when young. Once you purchase your new found friend, you will want to provide it the best in pet health care.

I, as well, have a very pit-bull who may be the most adoring animal I have ever owned. Soon, a brand new dog breed will can come together for that media to blast, as they have performed rotties and dobies in prior years. Unfortunate that media sensationalism breeds much inaccurate facts.
