How Do I Make My Dog Obey?
As most of you know, we've had Ginger, our miniature schnauzer for a few days now. But we've had pets forever. This baby was just a nice addition at a nice time for our family. But the first question people have when they ask about her, is how do you train your dog? The answer is mainly that everyone in the family has to be giving the dog the same signals. Most of the time dogs get confused and don't obey because each family member treats a situation differently.
So we checked out the dog obedience courses on the Internet and one that we can recommend to you is Daniel Stevens' "Sit, Stay, Fetch". This program which is made up of an ebook which is downloadable from Stevens website. It's an easy read, but what we thought was nice is that it is broken up into various problem chapters. You find a problem, go to the chapter and read how to train your dog in that area.
Daniel goes over "dog talk" and let's you see how speaking to your dog in people talk will set him confused. Moreover, Daniel details how dogs react to your misunderstood command, and we found he was spot on. In the book, you will learn these necessary lessons:
- How to make your dog understand you. Many dog owners don't know when their dog is comprehending them, or not.
- Professional dog trainer tips revealed. We thought this was great to save hundreds!
- Learn how to break up dog fights easily.
- Learn how to calm your dog's aggressiveness. Here Daniel talks about six interesting strategies that do work.
- Urgent dog house training! Oh, yeah - this is the biggie. Learn which techniques bring the fastest results and which don't work at all.
- Keep your dog from racing out that front door. This tip alone is worth it all.
Along with Daniel's book, we also received a few things we felt were nice - but they may not mean much to you. We got a Quick Guide to Dog Aggression, Secrets to Becoming the Alpha Dog, Grooming Made Easy (my wife loved this one), Tips on Security Training Your Dog, All the House Training Methods and Tricks (my favorite), the SitStayFetch Audio (an mp3 file), and Daniel's personal consultation via e-mail.
Ok, that said - we found the product well worth it. It's a bonus when your dog obeys, does his job in the right place, and doesn't bite the neighbor's dog. People ask us all the time who trained our dog. And guess what - it's never too late to start.
