Best Lap Dog Breeds

Among the variety's talents are tracking, watching over the house, hunting, and performing tricks and sports regarding competitive obedience. By the late 1800s, bichons were relegated to the status of street urchins in the major cities of France. The sturdy little dogs' rugged constitution enabled them to survive neglect and two world wars. One of the essential breed features (especially in China) is the “prince mark.” This refers to the vertical wrinkle on the forehead that looks like the Chinese symbol for prince. The pug has been a pet in many countries by a variety of people – from Buddhist monks in Tibet to European royalty.

The joys of watching a Boston or Pug play outside are endless. They weigh up to 20 pounds and live up to 15 years. A number of breeds were developed for 'sport' of another kind - bull and bear baiting, as well as rat catching, and pit fighting. Today, most breeds are partially "unemployed.".Many of their jobs have been taken over by machines. Yet, no machine can comfort you when you're down, make you laugh with its antics or see into your soul the way a dog can.

The head is big for his size and the eyes are set far apart, giving the chin a characteristic appearance. On your lap, a chin serves as an excellent way to keep your lower extremities warm. The Chinese Pekinese is looked on with great respect, having been the breed of choice at the Chinese Imperial Court. They appear in many works of art and represent a guardian spirit because of their similarities with the Chinese lions of legend, whose statues stand and protect many historic buildings. Don't expect all this work to keep that soggy tennis ball out of your lap when you're watching television, though. Your Border Collie will still have plenty of energy to spare!

The Shih-tzu quickly caught the eye of the Imperial Chinese court and were guarded protectively by their benevolent owners. Members of the Chinese royalty were so protective of the breed that it wasn't until 1930 that the Shih-tzu debuted in Western civilization. In the countries of Tibet and China, these little dogs were given to Chinese Royalty as gifts. Shih Tzu were, and still are, the perfect companion or lap dog. They also learn basics of puppy handling and grooming, giving commands and teaching obedience, tricks they can teach young canines, .

Similar to horse racing, people enjoy watching beautiful animals in full flight doing what they love. Also like horse racing, people enjoyed the sport more when they were allowed to place bets on the particular dog or the outcome of the race. Originating in China and members of the AKC toy group, they are best known for their noble flowing coats and graceful countenance. Though small (8-14 pounds mature weight), Peks are courageous and dignified. They are excellent pets for senior and you will know when someone's approaching the house.

Aside from their very limited activity levels, greyhounds seldom bark and shed less than most breeds. Of course, they do have short bursts of activity from time to time, but they definitely do not require a lot of space to run. Toy dogs usually make good watchdogs, although some have a hard time not barking. Bark incessantly or scratch at the door, neurotic for their owners to return.

Miniature Dog Breeds Today

All dog breeds require a certain amount of grooming and care is necessary to keep dogs and puppies looking at their best. Grooming consists of not only brushing out the coat and bathing but also giving attention to the eyes, teeth, ears, feet and nails. But, be careful of training this dog to bark as a method of alarm; they are prone to excessive barking. Their tails, sometimes docked, are carried high. They come in solid black, salt & pepper, silver & black and sometimes white.

They are just the right size to easily travel in a car. Although energetic, Minis are not as hyper as some similar-sized breeds, and their need for daily exercise can be satisfied with a brisk walk and some indoor play. The breed was used not only as a companion, but also to drive away rats and stand guard over produce carts at the market. The short, flat coat is virtually carefree, requiring only occasional brushing to remove dead hair. A min pin that receives regular brushing will seldom need a bath - shampooing washes away the natural oils that moisturize the coat and skin, so bathe only when necessary.

They are escape artists and naturally curious so you'll need to be careful to keep them contained. They will also dominate the household if you let them. The tail should be short, set on low, fine, and should be carried horizontally. It should be thick where it joins the body, and should taper to a fine point. Due to their instinct to hunt vermin, special care must be taken in preventing a Minpin from "attacking" small objects, such as bottle caps, as they could pose a choking hazard. Minpins are also prone to overeating, and should have their diets monitored to prevent obesity.

Miniature Poodles have been exploited, so you have to be very careful. Standard Poodles are much less common, so the chances of buying a poorly bred puppy aren't as high. Cost of care, messes, and shedding is less, but some can be finicky eaters. Their size and assertiveness predispose caution around children. To go outside for car rides or walkies he would get into a tool box for the ride down stairs in the elevator. If he had to go potty indoors he had a completely waterproofed bathroom under the kitchen sink that doubled for a hiding spot when unexpected guest (apt manager) would come by.

Whether stripped or clipped, the Schnauzer must be groomed frequently to prevent mats, particularly on the legs and in the beard. The AKC standard specifies a characteristic hackney-like action: "a high-stepping, reaching, free and easy gait in which the front leg moves straight forward and in front of the body and the foot bends at the wrist. The dog drives smoothly and strongly from the rear.

Of course, the best way to train the Miniature Pinscher , or any dog, is while your new pet is still a puppy. Dogs are more capable and willing to learn when they are young. My dream is to bring both together under one roof and Im sure I have taken the correct path in investing my money in dog training courses such as sitstayfetch. I want to be the last last opportunity for many and the first for some in this country where animals are still not treated with respect nor are the kids known as "disposables". The breed’s natural intelligence lends itself to training, as long as you keep the tasks challenging and fun, and do not resort to harsh treatment.
