If not trained and handled at a young age, Golden Retrievers can become intolerant of other animals, including other dogs. However, Golden Retrievers are also known to be loyal toward their masters and can make entertaining and endearing pets. Some dogs are non responsive, while others just seem depressed. In many cases the dog has developed this way either from a series of negative experiences during development, or it is in a poisonous household and they just shuts down emotionally.
The proper dog etiquette is for a subordinate to greet a superior or dominant animal. It is taken to the extreme in this social style. Socialization means introducing your dog to people, and to a lesser extent, to dogs and/or other animals. It is extremely important to socialize a pup of any breed with people, but be sure that the pup’s experiences are ALWAYS positive. There were no significant differences among behavioral groups with regards to the proportion of dogs reported improved.
Dogs and humans might share some personality traits which facilitate their interaction within a group. Interaction with wolves depends in most cases on the skill of the human to adapt to the needs. Since dogs that show well in conformation are considerably more valuable, the obvious choice unfortunately is made. Because Golden Retrievers are athletically inclined, highly intelligent and possess a strong desire to please their owners, they perform very well at dog obedience’s competition. They also have a high energy level and are fun loving dogs.
These breeders usually get a few dogs that they think work well together, and then sell off the resulting puppies. They don’t really think about bloodlines, quality, or anything else, other than the money that you will be putting in their wallets when you buy your puppy. The dog in the center has shorter ears and a slightly more substantial frame, but many of these dogs could pass for golden retrievers. Golden Retrievers are very loving, energetic dogs. They thrive on attention and affection and will work hard to get those responses from you.
Due to their intelligence, they do well in obedience trials and make excellent assistance dogs. While they might not do quite as well in field trials as Labrador Retrievers, they are excellent hunters that are famous for their outstanding scenting abilities. Within 3 months you could have a beast of a dog eating from your hand and behaving like teachers pet. Goldens cannot be maintained as outside-dogs, they are indoor companions. Consider your life-style and household schedule -do you travel a lot, do you work long hours, are you busy with your children’s activities?
Dog trainers have seen puppies with the perfect upbringing turn out dangerously aggressive, and severely abused dogs who were stable and friendly. It’s the same with cats; you can generalize to a certain extent, but never count on those generalizations. These are large dogs with plenty of energy. Without the right Golden Retriever training, your dog will be rambunctious with house guests and possibly be destructive when left alone.
