If you like your clothes/carpets/furniture to be hair-free, the Alaskan Husky is not the dog for you. Even keeping your husky outside doesn’t eliminate the problem the hair still seems to find its way inside. The life span of the Alaskan Husky is usually between 10 to 15 years. The Alaskan Husky is often misidentified as an official dog breed , though there is technically no ideal physique or genetic profile. The world’s most selective aficionados of Alaskan Huskies—dogsled racers—judge the dogs by very specific criteria, none of which involve appearance or bloodlines: speed, strength and endurance.

The Alaskan Husky is the best racing sled dog in the world today. The Alaskan Husky is derived from a mix of northern types, most notably the Siberian husky. It is not considered to be a wolfdog, although distant wolf ancestry is quite visible in several features of many Alaskan Huskies.

The Alaskan Husky is generally healthy; some are prone to PRA (an eye disorder) or hypothyroidism. The Alaskan Husky has a lifespan of 10 to 15 years. The Alaskan Husky is basically a mixed-breed dog, in which northern or husky-type ancestry, such as the Siberian Husky or the traditional Alaskan village dog, predominates. It falls short of being a breed in that there is no preferred type and no restriction as to ancestry; it is defined only by its purpose, which is that of a highly efficient sled dog. The Alaskan Husky is derived from a mix of northern types, most notably the Siberian Husky. Alaskans are strong working dogs with thousands of years of breeding and history in the north country.

Shaving these dogs messes up their ability to keep a consistent body temperature. While the female dog may go into heat at an early age, she may not be physically ready to carry and care for puppies, so keep this in mind. You need to wait at least until the dog is fully grown before attempting to breed, and for some breeds, that isn’t until the reach two years of age or older. This cheerful dog is very fond of his or her family. A puppy at heart, they are clever, sociable and loving, easy-going and docile.

The coat can be of almost any conceivable dog color. Eyes too can be of any color, though blue is the most common. Gentle in character with a determined look he is a very people oriented dog. Males have a tendency to roam and need to be kept in a fenced in area. They are very strong, fast sprinters which make them extremely efficient sled dogs. They are slightly larger and have more endurance when competing in sled races then the Siberian husky.

Alaskan huskies are very popular as pets in Alaska, where they are relatively easy to obtain from professional dogsled racers. Puppies judged to be unfit for racing are regularly culled, and as a result they are often available free to any good home. Tarter or dental calculus starts off soft but can harden on the dogs teeth. Once hardened, it cannot be brushed away but requires a dental scaling just like you . All dog breeds, like huskys require a certain amount of grooming and care is necessary to keep dogs and puppies looking at their best. Grooming consists of not only brushing out the coat and bathing but also giving attention to the eyes, teeth, ears, feet and nails.
