Aggressive Pit Bulls can become a very serious problem if not dealt with in a proper manner. New laws exist that state if a dog bites or attacks someone, the dog’’s owner will be held responsible and the dog put down. This is just another reason that Pit Bull owners should invest the time and energy to properly train their dogs.

When a dog exhibits signs of aggression, they usually come from a lack of confidence and feelings of insecurity. Basic obedience training won”t solve your Pit Bull’’s problem with aggressive behavior, the only solution is serious dog training. Keep in mind that an aggressive dog doesn”t just bite, he barks and lunges at people as well and he could also attack another pet.

American pit bull terrier is among the most fashionable breeds of dogs. They are also sometimes referred to as the American Staffordshire terrier. Millions of homeowners around the world have found these dogs to the perfect pets that they ever had. Many a celebrity too is a proud owner of these wonderful canines.

If you are someone who wishes to have an American pit bull terrier as your pet, then you must remember one point. This breed, just as in the case with most others, will crave for your love and affection. You must therefore make it a point to spend at least some quality time with them. Taking them for brisk walks is a good way to spend time with them. This also helps in building an emotional bond between the dog and its owner.

No breed has ever conjured more controversy across the globe than the American Pit Bull Terrier (or American Staffordshire Terrier). Pit Bulls were bred to be strong, courageous, and have incredible endurance. It is because of these traits that they are a leading choice for police dogs, drug detection, hunting, service dogs, weight-pulling, search and rescue, and other canine occupations. They’ve even begun taking the Schutzhund competitions by storm. Unfortunately, these are the same traits that make them a perfect choice for dogfighting. Dogfighting has become so out-of-hand that in many American cities, such as Miami and Denver, Pit Bulls are strictly banned inside the city limits and offenders face criminal charges. It is a sad irony, indeed, that although Americans developed this breed, they are now the ones banning them.

Contrary to popular belief, Pit Bulls are not born vicious. They must be specifically trained to be aggressive, and the training techniques utilized are nothing less than torture. Just because most of the dog attacks reported involve Pit Bulls does not necessarily mean that they are a more aggressive breed than any other. Consider, for instance, if a Golden Retriever were to growl and nip at a child. That case would probably go unreported because of the popularity of Golden Retrievers. Most people might shrug it off, thinking that the child was probably tormenting the dog. But because of the Pit Bull’s reputation, the cases involving them will always be reported, no matter how innocent, causing the number of reported Pit Bull attacks to rise above the rest.

The American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) is a breed of dog in the terrier group, one of several breeds loosely classified as pit bulls. Ownership of APBTs is controversial, due to publicized media stories of “pit bulls” having attacked children, strangers, and even adults. This has led to the ownership of APBTs and “pit bulls” in general being restricted or banned in many parts of the world. For example, in Ontario, Canada, APBTs were declared to be a significant threat to the public, and were thus banned from the province. Owners of APBTs claim that well-bred APBTs are not aggressive toward humans, and suggest that the problem is due to the breed’s appeal to irresponsible segments of society who do not know how to breed or train the dogs.

Despite its reputation, the extraordinarily muscled American pit bull terrier can be a wonderful family companion if bred for gentle temperament and trained at a young age. The breed can also be stubborn and aggressive, so early socialization with all kinds of people and animals is crucial.

This dog’s intelligence lends itself to training and they are used by the military, police and bomb squads. They are also used successfully as therapy dogs and service dogs.

Nevertheless, their strength, energy, athleticism, endurance capabilities and innate ability to be aggressive does mean that they must be trained firmly from young. Trained correctly they have proved themselves time and again to be loyal and warm family pets as well as being excellent watchdogs.

Pit Bulls may turn out to be among unwanted dogs found in shelters. Many rescue Pit Bulls are often euthanized just for being Pit Bulls and potentially dangerous for people. There are non-kill organizations that will euthanize only if a dog is showing aggression and there is no possible way to train it. Therefore, before adopting a Pit Bull, consider all pros and cons of such a large step.

No doubt, it is a noble idea to save a dog’s life. Moreover, Pit Bulls deserve your attention even more than any other dog breed. However, commit yourself to a rescue Pit Bull only if you are absolutely sure it is not going to interfere with your other pets and if you are ready to introduce some changes into your lifestyle. The Pit Bull requires attention and patience.
