Once they’re on your dog, it’s easy for them to spread to your carpets and bedding, where they’ll continue to grow and multiply. That’s why flea control is so important. Feeding pet’s garlic, brewer’s yeast or B vitamins has not been shown to be effective against fleas. Also, pennyroyal, eucalyptus, rosemary, tea leaves and citronella have not been shown to provide effective control. Remember that the flea spends the majority of its life in the environment, not on your pet, so it may be difficult to find. In fact, your dog may continue to scratch without you ever seeing a flea on him. You have to carefully follow the manufacturers instructions when applying flea dips and ensure none of the product splashes into your dog’s eyes and ears. Do not use other products at the same time.

Make sure any product you use does not contain piperonyl butoxide. Also make sure that the solution contains no more than .04% active Pyrethrins. Find products that are harmless to pets, people and environment while effectively knocking down those pests. Counterfeit Advantage Flea Control for Dog products are sometimes sold through other retailers, putting your pets at risk. Egg production can continue for as long as 100 days, which means that a single flea can produce thousands of eggs. Lufenuron is given monthly, and is combined with heartworm protection in the product Sentinel. Methoprene and pyriproxifen (Nylar) are also very effective IGRs that are available as sprays or collars. This page has some useful tips for what you should do to control fleas that are an inevitable byproduct of going out to get some exercise.

Basically, these products stop the normal action of neuro-transmitters, causing the insects to lose control of bodily functions, go into convulsions, dehydrate and ultimately die. Guess what happens when pets come in contact with such sprays and either ingest or inhale them? This type is by far the most popular because it prevents both fleas and ticks — and sometimes other pests — and is safe and easy to use.

Due to the common misconception that fleas die off in the Winter, many pet owners skip flea prevention treatments when it gets colder. Fleas can withstand normal Winter conditions, however they will not survive harsh conditions (roughly 10 days at 37F or 5 days at 33F). Advantage then spreads naturally on the surface of the pet’s skin, with the help of movement by your cat or dog. As a matter of fact, FRONTLINE flea control is approved for use on young puppies and kittens so you can provide your pet with the best flea protection, right from the start.

If left untreated it can lead to complications in not only your pet’s health but also in your health too. Your pet can swim, get wet and even be bathed without the need for re-application. What’s more, FRONTLINE flea control is approved for use on very young puppies, so you can provide your pet with the best flea and tick protection, right from the start. They bounce around on the furniture and carpet in search of pets to nibble on. What really stinks is that they can even go after you if they can’t find any animals.

Also, fleas can bite other pets and humans in the household leading to infestations, possible allergic reactions and even allergies and skin rashes. Dog fleas are found almost everywhere in the world, although they tend to be more problematic in warm climates and in more southerly locations. As they mature into adults, they jump onto your pet. It’s a constant process. Can be sprayed on carpets, upholstery, bedding and anywhere pets frequent. It can even be sprayed on dogs over six months old once every 30 days.
