The breed has a strong set of jaws and their wide, well-developed teeth meet in a firm or inverted scissors bite. They are a very athletic breed, and are capable of trotting for miles. The neck of the Alano Español is wide and strong, as are the jaws with their reverse-scissors bite. The Alano Español can come in several colors such as brindle, fawn, red, black and brindle and sable wolf. First several “ancient” breeds were identified based on a strong similarity in the single nucleotide repeates (SNR) in their DNA and the repeates in the Wolf set which were never domesticated. These breeds were thought to be some of the first breeds formed and domesticated.

His bite is very strong and firm. Temperamentally serious and very well balanced. These are very dominant dogs, but they will act submissive toward a strong master. The Alano Español requires confident pack leadership, and an owner that is ready and willing to present the dog with various tasks. The dog forms a strong attachment to its master. Unlike other breeds that would pick out a single person to bestow their affection, this breed loves the entire family.

The Alano is also both strong and confident, but because of the work they have been selected for dog aggression is easily avoidable with minimal socialization. The neck is strong, powerful and wide, showing two double chins that should never hang to low.

His head is brachycephalic (Bulldog type) in shape, squared in appearance and with a serious expression. The Alano Espanol is very strong-willed and likes to dominate. If you have a hard time being kindly forceful, then this is not the dog for you. Their jaw is strong and undershot and their muzzle is short. The breed’s lips hang down over the lower jaw, and their nostrils are broad and open. The jaws are remarkably tenacious and strong while the skull is massive. The muzzle usually has the about same length as the skull. This dog has a well proportioned body structure and a deep chest, strong shoulders and withers. The back legs are slightly shorter than the front legs, which are straight when viewed from the front.

This is not an invitation to mistreat or physically punish or threaten a dog! Instead, this demeanor requires respect (in order that respect is returned), fair and thorough training and socializing to create a balanced, happy and courteous canine companion. With diligent training and a committed handler, the dog may overcome this aggressive behaviour. Remember that each dog breed is different. Some dog breeds require lots of time that you will have to dedicate to groom and to exercise.

A famous breed of medieval hunting dogs was called Alan (med. Latin Alanus) which, according to a 19th century authority on the history and origin of canine breeds, G. Essentially they functioned as a guardian and cattle dog, as well subdued the cattle for the butchers. This dog is born to courageous hunter and good runner with high speed for a long period of time. They are very loyal friends and will fight for you to the death.

The Alano Español is known for having an extremely effective and desctructive jaw bite. Their obedient nature has always been a huge advantage for owners using this breed for hunting as they obey commands to release prey very well. The alano espanol may be found in a local rescue and will have corrective training if necessary.

Alpine Dachsbrackes are excellent with children and good with dogs and other pets, though they may exhibit a strong prey drive typical of many scent dogs. Their straight limbs are short, well-muscled, and strong-boned. Their long, heavily muscled bodies feature prominent withers, a level back, and a deep chest. The dog is strong; possess great stamina as well as a good voice that easily points the location of the prey. Primarily developed in the Alp lands as a hunting dog, the Alpine Dachsbracke can be easily adapted to work in rough terrain. Terriers are characterized by feisty temperaments, weather-resistant coats, muscular bodies, and strongly independent natures. Strong muzzle with pronounced transition to cranial region. Well defined furrow in forehead, lightly emphasized occiput. Their body is rectangular shaped, with strong, but short legs. This breed is able to work in high-altitude, cold conditions.

The trunk is strong and well muscled, and elongated, in a ratio of length to height of 3:2. The chest is deep and broad, and there is a pronounced forechest.

The breed was officially recognized in 1932 in Austria as the third breed of Scenthound. Austria is still considered to be the Alpine Dachsbracke’s country of origin. Professional training is encouraged for first time owners of this breed. Alpine Dachsbracke’s are highly intelligent and easy to train, and they possess an even temperament and a desire to please their owners.

Known in its native country of Austria as Alpenlandische Dachsbracke, is a small breed of dog of the scent hound family, bred to track wounded deer as well as boar, hare, and fox. It is highly efficient at following a trail even after it has gone cold. Eventually the bloodline found its way into these two Austrian dog breeds. A rubber brush should be used over this breed’s coat to removed dead hair. Shampoo their coat only as necessary.

A hound is one of hunting dogs that is very skilled at tracking and even pursuing game animals. Some hounds are called sight hounds while others are recognized as scent hounds, with the former following the prey and keeping it in his sights as opposed to the latter type that follows the prey by its scent. Herding dog breeds – The term herding dog is used to describe livestock guardian dogs. The main function of this type of dog breed is to guard live stock and other animals from predators and theft. For breeds categorized by national origin, refer to the list of dog breeds by country.

You’ll find Dachsies are very well socialized pets and will adapt easily to your loving home. Dachshunds and similar breeds tend to look very good in pet clothes such as dresses, vests and skirts. You may also want to consider some sweaters as your choice in dachshunds clothing. They are generally okay with other pets, however, once again, without proper leadership from their humans, they can be jealous, irritable, obstinate and very quick to bite. Sometimes refusing to be handled. So get advice for the care of your pet. As these dogs are rather popular, people often breed their pets and raise the puppies themselves without caring much about the health of the litter and breed standard. The result is increasing pet overpopulation and many dogs that are abandoned. Nose and nails-in the case of black dogs, black; for chocolate and all other colors, dark brown, but self-colored is acceptable. Partial or wholly blue (wall) eyes are as acceptable as dark eyes. A large area of white on the chest of a dapple is permissible. Eyes are oval in shape, medium in size and are dark rimmed. The muzzle is finely formed, the nose is black, and the head tapered.

Wirehair Dachshund breeders can also direct you to other Wirehair Dachshund breeders they know, which might be closer to you. USA Registered Puppies has developed a list of the most popular registered breeds with breed standard images for selecting your puppy. Their eyes are medium sized, dark and almond shaped, with dark rims. Their ears are set near the top of their heads, are rounded and moderately long. Its eyes are oval, dark red or brown-black with an energetic and friendly expression. Its ears are mobile and hanging long on its cheeks. Darker spots that are the color of the “normal” coat may appear on the lighter dapple area. There will be black spots on black and tan Dapples and chocolate spots on the chocolate and tan dogs.

Chihuahuas are already the smallest dog breed in the world and having one means that it will be the smallest of the smallest and they many people think they are the cutest. Major fault: color of nose, lips and eye-rims incomplete, or of wrong color for color of dog. Labradoodles are one of the friendliest dogs you will ever find. An Australian breeder decided to cross a Labrador with a Poodle for a vision-impaired lady who needed a guide dog, but was allergic to the fur. Please be sure to read “FYI” for additional details and review my Contract. Prices, pictures, pedigrees and references can be mailed upon request. The curved tail is dual-purposed: to be seen more easily in long grass and, in the case of burrowing dachshunds, to help haul the dog out if it becomes stuck in a burrow. Most of my dogs will greet strangers with a tail wag instead of a bark. They are all very happy and healthy.

So do Teacup Dachshunds exist? It suggests that the breed comes in different sizes. These little dogs like to bark (their barks are surprisingly loud for their size), and the dog needs to be told barking obsessively is an unwanted behavior. This breed has an instinct to dig. Despite their small size they make a good watch dog with a surprisingly loud bark. Dachshunds may be slightly aggressive to strangers. Wired-haired Miniature Dachshunds tend to be livelier and more outgoing then smooth-hairs. Miniature Dachshunds are more reserved than the standard breed. Miniature Dachshunds are available in smooth-hair, long-hair and wire-hair and come in a large array of colors. We have a limited number of males and several; females several colors. Some of my favorite colors are chocolate and tan and cream. Miniature Dachshunds although placed in the hound group, this is actually a breed of terriers, as they go to the ground in search of vermin.

The Affenpinscher is one of the most ancient toy dogs. He originated in central Europe during the 17th century from small terriers who were kept on farms and in homes to kill rats and mice. The head of the Affenpinscher is round in shape, with a very pronounced stop between the eyes and the muzzle. The muzzle is relatively short, and the lower jaw extends slightly beyond the nose. The average life span of an Affenpinscher is 10-12 years. The breed does not require exercise, as they can keep fit by playing indoors. The Affenpinscher is a healthy breed, and has few documented hereditary health problems. Occasionally, one will see patellar luxation, breathing problems and corneal ulcers in the breed.

Even as small dogs, the Affenpinscher is observed to have a terrier-like personality. But in contrast with terriers, the Affenpinscher is more sociable, able to get along well with other dogs. Happily, the Affenpinscher is a relatively sturdy little breed with fewer serious genetic disorders than many other breeds. While most toy breeds were developed specifically as companions, the Affenpinscher shares with the Yorkshire Terrier a unique distinction among toy breeds; both were developed to perform a working function for their owners. Sharing qualities with the terrier breeds, the Affenpinscher is a family dog that can be playful, stubborn, mischievous and inquisitive. He can be just as happy playing with you in the living room as he is on a warm weather camping trip.

The Affenpinscher is generally quiet but can become excited when threatened and is fearless toward any aggressor. Affenpinscher is quiet and very devoted to his owner. Although small, Affenpinscher is a very sturdy dog. In France the Affenpinscher is known as the ‘diablotin moustachu’ meaning the -mustached little devil- or the ” Monkey Dog” because it produces a monkey-like expression! Affenpinscher is derived from ‘affen’ meaning monkey and ‘pinscher’ meaning terrier. The total overall appearance of the Affenpinscher is more important than any individual characteristic. He is described as having a neat but shaggy appearance. The affenpinscher is generally quiet, but can become vehemently excited when threatened or attacked, and is fearless toward any aggressor. Affenpinschers are well-suited for a family that likes entertainment and can keep its sense of humor about the affenpinscher’s penchant for antics.

Sturdy, smart, and alert, the Affenpinscher is an excellent watchdog who fears nothing. He’s not normally loud, but he is excitable. Another great thing about grooming an Affenpinscher is that the shaggy, unkempt appearance is the look that you should be going for. Not that hard to do considering Affenpinschers naturally look scruffy and untidy. The Affenpinscher is known to be somewhat stubborn, moody, and independent at times, creating difficulty in training. This breed learns quickly but its stubbornness might make it difficult to train. Affenpinschers are somewhat territorial when it comes to their toys and food, so they are not recommended for very small children. On the other hand, the Affenpinscher’s very terrier like attitude will make him a difficult partner for the trainer that feels they can strong arm or bully the dog into a stellar performance. Instead, the Aff is a natural entertainer and keeping the entire endeavor fun, happy and playful will make it successful in many ways. Some Affenpinschers can be difficult to housebreak, so crate training is recommended. Your Affenpinscher will be ready to come home with you by eight weeks of age, and will require a brief socialization period in your home.

Many of you have heard about the controversy surrounding the current status of the Akita. The Japan Kennel Club as well as AKIHO (the parent club in Japan), do not consider American Akitas to be true Akitas. Over the last several years Japan has convinced the FCI countries to eliminate any Akitas with pinto markings, black masks and any black color on the body from any serious consideration at the shows. This has effectively removed most American Akitas from competition in the FCI countries. Since there seems to be more than a little confusion surrounding this issue let me give you a little background.

At the Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI) General Assembly meeting in 2005, it was announced that the Japanese Akita and the American Akita were to be recognised as two seperate breeds. On January 1, 2006 it was announced that in the eighty FCI countries the names had been officially changed to the Japanese Akita and The Great Japanese Dog or American Akita.

This was done at the request of the Japan Kennel Club, the country of origin for the two Akita breeds of dog. The Japanese Kennel Club believed that the American Akita’s were not thought to be true Akitas and now The Kennel Club in the United Kingdom approved the recognition of the Japanese Akita Inu as a separate breed of dog, separate from the Akita breed of dog.

The Americans are bigger and stronger. They are also more strong willed and stubborn, so as far as training goes it’s much easier with a Japanese, in general they have more easy going natures.

The Akita always makes a lasting first impression. Akitas are large, powerful dogs with substantial bone and musculature. The broad chest and neck serve as a solid base for the Akita’s large head, the Akita’s most distinguishing feature. The broad skull and the short muzzle form a blunt triangle when viewed from above. The massive head in combination with the small triangular shaped eyes and small erect ears give the Akita an intimidating, yet dignified, expression.

The Akita is a very balanced looking dog, being only slightly longer than it is tall. The tail is curled and carried over the back, which serves to balance with the dog’s head. Typically the male Akita is substantially larger than the female. The males range in weight from about 100 to 130 pounds, while the females range from 70 to 100 pounds.

The akita has enjoyed a rise in its popularity due to its innate abilities that make the dog perfectly suitable for guard dog work. It was originally bred in Japan for dog fights (which has long been banned) and hunting. Because of its proud stance and intelligent, independent, and loyal nature, the akita was regarded as a royal pet by the Japanese aristocracy during the breed’s early history. Currently, the breed enjoys its status as a national monument in Japan.

Akitas were first introduced to the United States in 1937 but were not popular until 1945 when American soldiers started bringing more of the breed back to the States. Helen Keller is often credited for bringing the first Akita to the US. She was said to be so taken with the story of Hachiko, a loyal akita who waited for his master, Dr. Elisaburo Ueno, at the train station everyday and continued waiting there even after Dr. Ueno died. Japan’s Ministry of Educationdecided to give Keller an akita puppy and later sent her another one when the first puppy died.

Responsible Akita breeders in this country and abroad do their uttermost to maintain and improve the breed’s gene pool, but it takes a little bit of time, patience and knowledge to determine a conscientious breeder with a healthy and purebred puppy for sale. Akita dogs are not easy to handle for young dog lovers, and it is advisable to think twice before purchasing an Akita puppy. Are you ready to spend most of your time training your dog? Will you have time to walk your dog on a daily basis? Can you see the difference between a manifestation of merry mood and an attempt to dominate in your house? Do you think you can stop it in a firm and determined way? If the answers to each of these questions are affirmative, you will be okay with an Akita dog.

The American Mastiff was developed over twenty years ago by Fredericka Wagner of Flying W Farms. In the year 2000, the Continental Kennel Club (CKC) recognized the breed as “purebred” and since that time has only been bred American Mastiff to American Mastiff. American Mastiffs were developed specifically to be loving family companions. They are large and powerful, yet very gentle in nature. For a large breed dog, the American Mastiff has a relatively “dry mouth” and excellent life expectancy (10-12 years average).

The American Mastiff requires little exercise. As puppies, they grow so quickly and their bones develop so rapidly that they spend a lot of time sleeping. They will wake up, play for a little while and then they are asleep again. As they grow older, they can exercise more and when full grown they will go for long walks with you but jogging is not their thing. They are calm and quiet in the house; therefore, though large, they make an ideal house pet. The American Mastiff does well in a wide range of environments, from an apartment with walks in the park, to a farm or a home with a big yard.

The American Mastiff is a large, powerful dog with a wide, heavy, rectangular-shaped head and a powerfully muscular build. The breed has a deep, rounded chest and well-sprung ribs. Their limbs are well-built, straight, and well-muscled, and their burly necks are thick and slightly arched. American Mastiffs have a long tail that reaches the hocks, and a pair of high set ears that are semi-round in shape. Their medium-sized muzzle is well-proportioned and features a black nose. American Mastiffs have teeth that close in a scissors bite and dark, amber-colored eyes. American Mastiff puppies are born darkly colored, and as they get older they become lighter. The breed’s coat can vary slightly in color, but is usually a light fawn that may or may not have some white markings.

The American mastiff grows to be huge; the height is 28-36 inches; the weight of the male is 160-200 lbs. and the female 140-180.They come either in fawn, apricot or brindle; white is acceptable in the feet, chest, chin and nose. They must have that black mark upon their faces to show that they are the right breed.

American Mastiffs make excellent family pets as they are terrific with children and hopelessly devoted to their owners. They are dignified, mellow, calm, and quiet. While American Mastiffs are very protective, they are never aggressive. Rather, they make excellent watch dogs and only attack if their families (especially children) are in danger. American Mastiffs are social, wise, and gentle with people, and they are very patient with small children and other animals.

These wonderful dogs love children and are totally devoted to their family. wise, kind and gentle, they are patient and understanding, very loving with their own people. They are accepting and non-aggressive to your friends, visitors (and the postman), however if anyone threatens their family, especially the children, this dog will gladly give its life defending them.

Appearance: Head: Wide, heavy and rectangular in shape. Eyes: Amber in color. Darker the better. Ears: Rounded and set high on head. Muzzle: Medium size and well proportioned to head. Nose: Black. Bite: Scissor. Neck: Powerful, and slightly arched. Chest: Deep, broad and well-rounded, descending to the level of elbows. Ribs are well-sprung and extend well back. Body: Back is straight, muscular and powerful, with well muscled and slightly arched loins. Legs: Forelegs are strong, straight and set well apart. Hind legs are wide and parallel. Feet: Round and compact, with arched toes and black nails. Tail: Long, reaching the hocks. Movement: Strong and driving, yet very agile. Temperament: Dignity rather than gaiety; quiet, calm, loving and loyal. Protective, but not aggressive.

The American mastiff has descended from a breed of ancient dog with a rich history. The temperament of this breed denotes grandeur, dignity and gentleness. The American Mastiff is a breed of massive dogs but they are affectionately called gentle giants because of their good nature. This fairly new breed was developed over years of careful and selective breeding to create a breed that will have the typical size, appearance and temperament of a mastiff but a breed that would have a dryer mouth and one with lesser genetic problems. The English Mastiff was crossed with the Anatolian Shepherd.

The American Mastiff is one of the largest breeds of dogs. This breed has a powerful well muscled longer than tall body, a large head and strong limbs with large feet. The massive size may give the dog an intimidating appearance. Not many people would think that this dog has an inherent gentleness and good nature. This dog is affectionate and loyal to the family. An American Mastiff is dubbed as couch potato given that the dog would rather lie down instead of romp, run and play. The dog may exude an indolent personality but they have a protective temperament. If the family especially the children are threatened, the dog will move with alacrity and become the courageous and aggressive defender.

German shepherd dogs are valued all over the world for their courageous qualities and fast instincts in an emergency. German shepherd dogs are so well loved because of their lively and intelligent responses to their owners.

Historically, the German Shepherd has been used as a shepherd dog for cows, goats and sheep and at one time German dogs that were used for shepherding had a variety of appearances and coat textures. The German Shepherd look that we are familiar with today was decided during the late 1800s in Germany at a dog show.

There are several lines of German Shepherd dogs which result in dogs with different appearances and talents. The average German Shepherd has an appearance that is familiar with many people and this look is sometimes easily recognized even in mixed breeds. The German Shepherd gets its signature look from the shape of its muzzle, head and ears plus its lively and intelligent expression is another giveaway. The basic German Shepherd facial expression is noble, intelligent and capable and the dog has a muscular and strong appearance.

A German Shepherd’s body is longer than it is tall and its double coat has a dense outer coat that can range from straight to wavy. The German Shepherd coat may be a variety of colors including white. The American Kennel Club disqualifies white German Shepherds from any competitions related to the club.

German Shepherds are known for being courageous team workers and these dogs have a long history of being shepherd, working and pastoral dogs. The German Shepherd is intelligent and easily trained and can assess and react to situations as a team player. German Shepherds are trained for such missions as detection of a variety of dangerous devices and for rescue operations. German Shepherds can be aggressive and can have a dangerous bite. German Shepherd dogs are used as attack dogs and are part of many police squads worldwide.

This dog must be trained when it is going to be in the home because of its aggressive behavior during its puppy hood. You have to socialize and train your puppy so you can enjoy your owner/pet relationship. You may find it easier to obedience train German Shepherd dogs than it is with some other dog breeds.

When you understand this breed, you will know if German shepherd dogs are the right breed for you. German Shepherd dogs have great things to offer the right owner.
