If you are thinking of adopting a German Shepherd puppy, it is important to know all that you can about the breed before making the decision. A German Shepherd is a medium sized animal that is quite strong and is not for dog owners that tend to be apathetic, are sedentary, or are novice dog owners. The breed possesses superior intelligence and will take over as leader of the pack if given the chance. When choosing a German Shepherd puppy for your home, you must be ready to accept the responsibility that comes with the task.

Grooming

A German Shepherd puppy is a classic breed that comes in a variety of coat colors. Purebred German Shepherds can have coats of black and tan, black and silver, black and cream, solid black, and sable. These coats shed year round with the heaviest period of shedding occurring seasonally. Starting when the dog is a puppy and continuing throughout adulthood, the dog should be groomed on a regular basis to prevent the shedding hair from accumulating throughout the home. Daily brushing is recommended and bathing should occur only when necessary to keep the coat in excellent condition.

Training

A German Shepard puppy requires extensive training early in life to be suitable for a domestic lifestyle. When trained as a puppy, German shepherds are quick to learn and very obedient. If the owner waits too long to train their animal, they will find that the dog can be obstinate and may even refuse to listen to the trainer. The training must be conducted with respect, fairness, and consistency, as a German Shepherd puppy will not respond to harsh or heavy handed training methods. The use of rewards for compliance with commands is recommended, as German Shepherds tend to respond well to this method.

Personality

A German Shepherd puppy is inquisitive and very curious about their environment. They possess a large amount of energy and are very agile, which can cause problems if the pet owner is looking for a more docile companion. A German Shepherd puppy thrives on interaction with their human companions and does not like to be left alone for long periods of time. Before training is complete, a German Shepherd that is left alone for long periods of time will do things to amuse themselves, such as destroying pillows or damaging furniture. Members of this breed are herders by nature and will instinctively try to herd anything that they come into contact with that moves. A German Shepherd puppy can have many peculiarities that any potential owner should be aware of before deciding to adopt one of these wonderful animals.

I agree entirely that it is up to dog owners to take care of their animals, as should be clear from my previous posts. The fact is that many people DO NOT, and unless sufficent laws are introduced and ENFORCED, we will continue to have a situation where dogs roam the streets. Dog roams the town looking for a new owner, and ends up being taken in by a family on vacation, consisting of a shrill mother and a bombastic father (Mrs. The girl breaks his heart by ignoring him once they return to her home in the city. As a responsible dog owner who took on a abandonded dog I am disgusted, Charges should be applied.

All we knew was that her previous owner(s) had moved and did not want to take her with them. After we took her to the vet, we placed her on a food allergy diet which completely healed her red eyes. As the owner it is your responsibility to condition your puppy for future training. Like a child your dog will need positive reinforcement and immediate correction. Attempts were made to contact his owners which did not produce and results. So he is now in foster care and awaiting a new home.

I would go further and say that the prospective pet owner should apply to own the pet, providing details of their suitability as an owner/carer, and their need for the animal. Every were we hunt, we look out for the property owners and treat them like family if they aren’t. We don’t use tracking collars on any of our hunting dogs and we treat them like children. Some 15 from one owner arrived in the last two weeks.

In some cases, older dogs are rejected by their owners, or left behind when an elderly owner must give up their beloved pet and no family members want the dog. Some of these dogs are in poor physical condition as well, and adopting them can be challenging and expensive. The potential owner agrees to pay the adoption fee and understands that this is to help defer rescue costs for veterinary care, transportation, and general supply costs incurred daily by the dog in order for their care. Puppies are on the higher end and older dogs or those with special needs may be on the lower end. However, I do not recommend getting a new dog weather a puppy or an adult as a holiday gift unless you have done your research and you are truly prepared to be a new dog owner. We searched for three months before we adopted our two dogs and it just happened to be before christmas.

If the owner was a drunk then it’s likely he might not have that kind of money, resulting in dog being put to sleep. However, as with every animal, owners must be aware of the commitment they are taking on can be up to 10 years. We have been fostering her for a few months now, after having been abandoned by her previous owners. She was very timid and frightened when we first took her in – we had to make a bed in our greenhouse initially as she wouldn’t come into the house even in the worst of weather.

All responsible dog owners clean up after their pets! As for Listerine, I can only say that we have one life, this is it, it’s not a rehearsal, so make the most of it and try giving instead of taking. The removal of fly-tipping from private land is the owner’s responsibility however; we will provide advice on its removal. Come on dog owners! Are a few hours filled with traffic, confusing crowds, explosioins and high levels of noise really worth the anxiety and possible loss of your pet?

The Lhasa Apso breeders listed here are not pre-screened. We accept no responsibilty for the dog breeders said commitments, guarantees, reputation or quality of service. Find the perfect Lhasa Apso puppy for sale or adult dog from questioning the Lhasa Apso breeders you see here. Find dogs for sale, puppies for sale, dog breeders, and more. Lhasa Apsos were used as watch dogs (with the emphasis on WATCH AND BARK, not guard) inside Tibetan monasteries for over 2000 years, for which they are uniquely suited with keen intelligence, acute hearing, and instincts for identifying friends from strangers. I can’t imagine these guys in a monastery. I mean, the barking must have echoed through the halls forever. Yet, they became the preferred breed, as the monks could have easily chosen whatever dog they required. You will find some interesting information about Lhasa Apsos right here.

Their temperament is unique: joyful and mischievous, dignified and aloof. An independent breed, the Lhasa’s goal in life is not necessarily to please their master. Its unique “mop-like” look and independent disposition can be very endearing and valuable addition to one’s home. Though they can be a bit manipulative at times, the Lhasa Apso is generally an excellent watch dog and a very self sufficient pooch. He has a unique temperament and is said to have a big dog personality. He can be rather independent and stubborn with a regal attitude.

Friends, old friends, new friends, you’ll make through the Lhasa Apso. The Lhasa apso first appeared in the Western world in 1901 when Mrs. McLaren Morrison returned to England from Darjeeling, India, with several of the little dogs. She gave one to Marjorie Wild, who became so fascinated with the longhaired sprite that she devoted the rest of her life, 70 years in all, to breeding and promoting Lhasas. Can you believe that story? Today, the world is so connected that we know the breeds everywhere. But imagine a time, and it wasn’t so long ago, that you could find a new breed of dog in a foreign land and bring it home with you?!

Overall training can be a very fun and rewarding time for you and your Lhasa Apso. Devoted to education and information on the Lhasa Apso dog breed, pet owners, Breeders, veterinarians and Lhasa Apso aficionados. Focusing on health and genetic issues, and many other features of interest to the average pet owner.

The Lhasa apso displays a variety of colors, including gold, cream, honey, shades of grey, and multicolor concoctions of white, brown and black. Lhasa Apsos are spirited and devoted little dogs, which are affectionate with their masters. They can be very obedient to their masters. A good breeder wants you to know everything you need to know before you welcome a Lhasa Apso into your life and a relationship that could last 15 years or longer. Most of us enjoy talking about the breed—and our own Lhasas—so we might give you more information than you really want.

Needless to say, the Lhasa Apso should not live outside. Pertinent health concerns include patellar luxation, progressive retinal atrophy, entropion, renal cortical hypoplasia and distichiasis. Online, go with care. There are sellers who do not pre-screen the Lhasa Apso dog breeders who advertise their puppies and dogs for sale. The Lhasa Apso is very protective and is a great watchdog. They may appear nervous around children and strangers and will bark incessantly until their owner reassures them. So it’s a great idea to see if this is the breed that you really want. Are they going to be good with your kids? Will they love their environment? These are questions you can ask before making a long term commitment to the dog.
