Aggressive Pit Bulls can become a very serious problem if not dealt with in a proper manner. New laws exist that state if a dog bites or attacks someone, the dog”s owner will be held responsible and the dog put down. This is just another reason that Pit Bull owners should invest the time and energy to properly train their dogs.

When a dog exhibits signs of aggression, they usually come from a lack of confidence and feelings of insecurity. Basic obedience training won”t solve your Pit Bull”s problem with aggressive behavior, the only solution is serious dog training. Keep in mind that an aggressive dog doesn”t just bite, he barks and lunges at people as well and he could also attack another pet.

American pit bull terrier is among the most fashionable breeds of dogs. They are also sometimes referred to as the American Staffordshire terrier. Millions of homeowners around the world have found these dogs to the perfect pets that they ever had. Many a celebrity too is a proud owner of these wonderful canines.

If you are someone who wishes to have an American pit bull terrier as your pet, then you must remember one point. This breed, just as in the case with most others, will crave for your love and affection. You must therefore make it a point to spend at least some quality time with them. Taking them for brisk walks is a good way to spend time with them. This also helps in building an emotional bond between the dog and its owner.

No breed has ever conjured more controversy across the globe than the American Pit Bull Terrier (or American Staffordshire Terrier). Pit Bulls were bred to be strong, courageous, and have incredible endurance. It is because of these traits that they are a leading choice for police dogs, drug detection, hunting, service dogs, weight-pulling, search and rescue, and other canine occupations. They’ve even begun taking the Schutzhund competitions by storm. Unfortunately, these are the same traits that make them a perfect choice for dogfighting. Dogfighting has become so out-of-hand that in many American cities, such as Miami and Denver, Pit Bulls are strictly banned inside the city limits and offenders face criminal charges. It is a sad irony, indeed, that although Americans developed this breed, they are now the ones banning them.

Contrary to popular belief, Pit Bulls are not born vicious. They must be specifically trained to be aggressive, and the training techniques utilized are nothing less than torture. Just because most of the dog attacks reported involve Pit Bulls does not necessarily mean that they are a more aggressive breed than any other. Consider, for instance, if a Golden Retriever were to growl and nip at a child. That case would probably go unreported because of the popularity of Golden Retrievers. Most people might shrug it off, thinking that the child was probably tormenting the dog. But because of the Pit Bull’s reputation, the cases involving them will always be reported, no matter how innocent, causing the number of reported Pit Bull attacks to rise above the rest.

The American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) is a breed of dog in the terrier group, one of several breeds loosely classified as pit bulls. Ownership of APBTs is controversial, due to publicized media stories of “pit bulls” having attacked children, strangers, and even adults. This has led to the ownership of APBTs and “pit bulls” in general being restricted or banned in many parts of the world. For example, in Ontario, Canada, APBTs were declared to be a significant threat to the public, and were thus banned from the province. Owners of APBTs claim that well-bred APBTs are not aggressive toward humans, and suggest that the problem is due to the breed’s appeal to irresponsible segments of society who do not know how to breed or train the dogs.

Despite its reputation, the extraordinarily muscled American pit bull terrier can be a wonderful family companion if bred for gentle temperament and trained at a young age. The breed can also be stubborn and aggressive, so early socialization with all kinds of people and animals is crucial.

This dog’s intelligence lends itself to training and they are used by the military, police and bomb squads. They are also used successfully as therapy dogs and service dogs.

Nevertheless, their strength, energy, athleticism, endurance capabilities and innate ability to be aggressive does mean that they must be trained firmly from young. Trained correctly they have proved themselves time and again to be loyal and warm family pets as well as being excellent watchdogs.

Pit Bulls may turn out to be among unwanted dogs found in shelters. Many rescue Pit Bulls are often euthanized just for being Pit Bulls and potentially dangerous for people. There are non-kill organizations that will euthanize only if a dog is showing aggression and there is no possible way to train it. Therefore, before adopting a Pit Bull, consider all pros and cons of such a large step.

No doubt, it is a noble idea to save a dog’s life. Moreover, Pit Bulls deserve your attention even more than any other dog breed. However, commit yourself to a rescue Pit Bull only if you are absolutely sure it is not going to interfere with your other pets and if you are ready to introduce some changes into your lifestyle. The Pit Bull requires attention and patience.

Labrador Retrievers are noted for their excellent temperaments. This breed is friendly, outgoing and eager to please. Labrador Retrievers are excellent companions and family pets. They love attention and if given the chance will travel with you everywhere you go. There’s a good reason that Labrador Retrievers are among America’s favorite canines. This is one smart fellow, an amiable guy who loves to learn and is easy to train. Labrador Retrievers are considered the foremost waterfowl dog on earth, but have also been trained and used as pipeline service dogs, police dogs, and as guide dogs for the blind. Their adaptability has earned them a reputation as a versatile worker in any task they are given. Labrador Retrievers are usually described as being either “English” or “American”, they can also be described a show or field Labradors, with the show Labradors being the English and the field being the American.

English or show labs tend to be smaller and stockier than the American or field labs. Our Labrador retrievers are chocolate, black & yellow coated. In fact, there is no other breed of dog in the world that has such ubiquitous practical uses, which is why Labrador Retrievers are so revered around the world. They are large and bouncy, have an enthusiastic outlook towards life, thrive on vigorous exercise and athletic activities, and are very eager to please and responsive to training. Labrador Retrievers are known to be one of the fastest learning breeds of dog and respond well to praise. First, the new Labrador owner must realize that not all dogs are the same and not all Labrador Retrievers are the same. Once pup may be easily trained by the time it is 12 weeks old, while another pup could be 5 months old before being fully housebroken.

They are increasing in popularity steadily, though, and in another 10 years may equal the other colors in numbers, acceptance, and quality. Prejudice against chocolates in both show and field arenas is still widely present today. Labradors are also at risk of developing eye problems such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy, cataracts and retinal dysplasia. It is also important to take your Lab to the veterinarian at the slightest sign of sight problems. Because they are retrievers, Labradors love to play hide and seek, looking for toys that have been placed under couch pillows or blankets. Left to their own devices, Labrador puppies will become wanderers, chewers, and diggers out of sheer boredom. Labradors stay ‘puppies’ until about three years old, when they’ve grown out of the puppy/teenager stage and into the adult one. They are, however, prone to chewing objects (though they can easily be trained out of this behavior). The Labrador Retriever’s coat repels water to some extent, thus facilitating the extensive use of the dog in waterfowl hunting.

In addition to making excellent service animals, they also enjoy hunting, tracking, retrieving, sledding, carting, agility, and competitive obedience. They enjoy doing pretty much anything and everything that their human partners do. If they are not – and if the breeder will not show you the certificates to prove it – keep looking. Because they can chew a lot, take care that your enclosure cannot be chewed through. They can also be good climbers, so check for possible footholds the dog could use to haul himself up (for example, check if a doghouse provides a platform from which to jump a fence).

Small dog breeds are a very popular choice amonst dog owners all over the world. This is not to say that the larger breeds are not popular as well. This popular small dog breed generally grows to no more than six or seven pounds in weight, and has a beautiful white coat. The Maltese is a very ancient dog breed and has a strong constitution, though it should not be kept in very hot areas, due to the thick coat. There are many other small dog breeds available so you need to know exactly what you’re looking for. You need to make sure that any new dog – whether a small one or not – fits in with your family, your living space and your lifestyle. Small dogs are more likely to be allowed to sleep right on a human’s pillow. In the dog world, the pack leader sleeps in the highest (height wise) most comfortable place. Small dogs are cute and cute things make people happy. Many small dogs are bratty and manipulative and will use “helplessness” to get you to do their bidding. If he can launch himself onto the couch, he can make it up those steps.

Don’t give a small dog breed table food. This is not a complete and balanced diet for them. There are other small dog breeds that may be well suited to you and your family, so check out our links page for additional resources. But we think you’ll find plenty of info on our site to help you make your decision with confidence. Many small dog breeds, like the Chihuahua and Pomeranian, have a reputation for being temperamental, jealous and downright spoiled at times. Depending on the breed, some may also be difficult to train and housebreak, as they are often known for being headstrong to make up for their small stature. Small dogs are smart, and “often train even faster” than large dogs, Arden said. There are even toy service dogs. The teeth of small dogs are drastically overcrowded in their jaw, making them more prone to severe periodontal disease (and this is common knowledge among veterinarians). Their teeth are packed into a small jaw, leaving very little space in between them and providing plenty of places for bacteria and plaque to develop and grow. Fortunately, just like their larger cousins, small dogs are very trainable. Many of the toy breeds are especially fast learners to boot!

One of the most popular small dog breeds is a poodle. If you favorite activity isn’t running the vacuum cleaner, you’ll want to choose your dog breed carefully as many small dog breeds shed quite profusely. A non shedding dog breed may be particularly important to you if you suffer from allergies. Learn about their variety of traits and needs, and see lots of small dog breed pictures, puppy pictures too. By their nature, small dogs are underfoot. If you have rambunctious children or other large pets, smaller breeds, particularly toy breeds, can feel threatened.
The pug is probably the largest of the toy dog group, weighing an average of up to 18 pounds. Extra small-sized dogs under 4 pounds and 8 inches can be ambiguously termed -Teacup,- yet it isn’t universally standardized. Many small sized dogs are bred for companionship and lap pets.

A great dog would be, well – she is house trained, knows basic obedience commands and is completely vetted. She is a dominant female and, due to a very bad experience in her past with a large dog, she is fearful aggressive of other dogs and strangers. Despite this, the Smooth Fox Terrier is very loyal and intelligent, and it can even be trained for tricks and other useful commands. These highly intelligent breeds pick up a command after only about five or six exposures, they more often respond on the first time you give the command, and they remember commands even if they aren’t practiced often. They also learn commands even when the trainer is inexperienced and makes mistakes. These breeds aren’t the smallest, but they also aren’t very big. For many dog owners, dogs between 20 and 40 pounds make the perfect pet because they are easy to manage when walking, yet strong and active enough to play frisbee in the back yard. So you aren’t limited to just the short-haired breeds if you don’t have time for regular brushing. You still can choose a longhaired breed; you just have to clip his coat short to make it easy to maintain.
